Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Buildings team in New Zealand. The role focuses on delivering mechanical building services across health, education, and data centre sectors, while mentoring engineers and maintaining high-quality outcomes.

You will operate across project delivery, business development and section performance, leveraging over five years of senior experience to drive technical excellence and client satisfaction within New Zealand projects.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Consulting environment within the Building services industry.
• Knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the engineering industry or consulting.
• Willingness to establish and maintain strong client relationships to formulate repeat opportunities.
• Ability to multitask between project involvement and section performance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working towards Chartered Professional Engineer (or equivalent) and/or Producer Statement Author would be favourable, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the delivery of mechanical building services projects across sectors including health, data centres, education, industrial, and infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project engineers, helping ensure quality, coordination, programme, and budget outcomes are achieved.
• Oversee design, documentation, project review, and construction-phase support in collaboration with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
• Build trusted client relationships by understanding project needs and providing practical, future-focused engineering solutions.
• Mentor and support team members, sharing your technical knowledge and helping foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of Stantec’s engineering systems, standards, and quality processes.
• Play an active role in strengthening team culture, supporting knowledge-sharing, professional development, and positive project outcomes.
