Job summary

Stantec in Wellington, New Zealand, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Buildings team. You will lead delivery of mechanical building services across sectors, mentor engineers, and help drive quality, schedule, and budget outcomes while fostering strong client relationships.

You will contribute to development of engineering systems and standards, support business growth, and participate in knowledge sharing within a diverse, high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with 5+ years experience.
• Experience in a Consulting environment within Building services.
• Knowledge of NZ Building Code and NZ Standards.
• Ability to multitask between project involvement and section performance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to pursue Chartered Professional Engineer status.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to delivery of mechanical building services projects across health, education, data centres, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.
• Provide technical guidance to project engineers to ensure quality, coordination, programme and budget outcomes.
• Oversee design, documentation, project reviews, and construction-phase support with clients, consultants, contractors and authorities.
• Build trusted client relationships by understanding project needs and providing practical, future-focused engineering solutions.
• Mentor and support team members, sharing technical knowledge to foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
• Contribute to ongoing development of Stantec’s engineering systems, standards, and quality processes.
• Promote knowledge-sharing and positive project outcomes within the team.
