Job summary

Stantec's New Zealand Buildings group in Wellington seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead major building services projects, including healthcare, data centres, and education facilities. You will mentor engineers, guide design and construction phases, and build strong client relationships across diverse projects.

You will bring 5+ years in a consulting environment, with knowledge of NZ Building Code and standards, and aim toward Chartered status.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Consulting environment within Building services or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships for repeat opportunities.
• Willingness to contribute across project delivery, business development, and section performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to mechanical building services projects across health, data centres, education, and infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance to project engineers to ensure quality, coordination, schedule, and budget targets.
• Oversee design, documentation, review, and construction‑phase support with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
• Build trusted client relationships by understanding project needs and delivering practical, future‑focused engineering solutions.
• Mentor team members and share knowledge to foster a collaborative, high‑performing environment.
• Contribute to ongoing development of Stantec's engineering standards, systems and quality processes.
• Support knowledge‑sharing and positive project outcomes to strengthen team culture.
