Job summary

Stantec seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Buildings team in New Zealand. You will support project delivery across data centres, healthcare, labs, and other facilities, guiding design, coordination, and client engagement.

The role requires leadership, mentorship, and a strong grasp of NZ Building Code and Standards. The successful candidate will manage workloads, contribute to technical excellence, and build long-term client partnerships while progressing toward Chartered Engineer

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Consulting environment within the Building services industry.
• Knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards.
• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, and ideally a minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience in the engineering industry or consulting.
• Willingness to establish and maintain strong client relationships to formulate repeat opportunities.
• Ability to multitask between project involvement and section performance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working towards being a Chartered Professional Engineer (or equivalent) and/or Producer Statement Author would be favourable, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Management of current and future workloads within the Mechanical Section to meet financial targets while maintaining morale.
• Oversee and manage the design process, aligning with project guidelines.
• Mentor and lead projects and develop the team through mentorship and technical excellence.
• Act as key contact for client relationships and provide strategic design solutions.
• Design, documentation, and supervision including reviews, liaison with client/consultant teams and QA audits.
• Contribute to engineering systems and uphold professional standards and Stantec procedures.
• Support the company culture and cross-team collaboration.
