Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Tauranga is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to help maintain a safe, secure hospital environment. You will monitor behaviour, de‑escalate incidents, support staff, and protect patients and visitors.
The role requires adaptability, calm under pressure, and strong communication. Shifts include weekends and nights; you’ll join a collaborative team delivering visible security and peace of mind across the frontline healthcare setting.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
Working within a fast paced and complex hospital environment, you will be responsible for helping maintain a safe and secure setting across our Tauranga Hospital site. This includes monitoring behaviour, managing high risk incidents with professionalism and empathy, supporting staff, and ensuring the wellbeing of patients and visitors. No two days are the same, so you'll need to stay calm under pressure and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
This permanent full time role will include working weekends and shifts (morning, afternoon, and overnight), so flexibility and resilience are essential.
You will join a hardworking, close knit team of Security Officers who work together to make a positive difference in the communities they serve.
Every member of the team plays a key role in supporting frontline healthcare delivery responding to incidents, de-escalating situations, and offering visible support and protection. It's not just about safety, it's about creating a place where staff and patients feel supported, respected, and secure.
You will bring a calm and confident presence, excellent communication skills, and a people first approach. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being active, thrives on variety, and understands the importance of empathy in complex healthcare environments.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand. We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community. We welcome applications from our Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
