Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is seeking a vigilant Security Officer for Middlemore Hospital. The role involves 24/7 site protection, staff and visitor escorts, and incident reporting.

You will operate cameras, radios, and locking systems while delivering excellent customer service in a busy healthcare environment. Ideal candidates have healthcare security experience, the ability to obtain Level 2/3 National Certificates, and strong written and verbal communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of security experience (healthcare setting preferred).
• Ability to obtain Level 2 and Level 3 National Certificate or appropriate qualifications.
• Ability to operate modern security technology such as cameras, radios/pagers, and electronic locking systems.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Basic computer skills (MS Outlook, MS Word).
• Ability to write clear incident reports and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Patrol sites across Middlemore Hospital and affiliated sites.
• Provide escorts for staff, patients, and visitors.
• Respond to incidents and assist with investigations and reporting.
• Report to Security Coordinator and maintain registers and records.
• Work on-call, rostered shifts across 24/7 coverage.

About the Role

Our Security Team provides 24/7 protection across the Counties Manukau District, with a focus on Middlemore Hospital, Manukau Health Park, and additional sites as needed. This involves frequent patrols of the sites, customer service, staff and visitor escorts, attending all security related incidents as and when required, investigation reporting and follow up of various incidents, reporting to the Security Coordinator. We currently have a full-time position, rostered shifts Monday to Sunday, over 24 hours, 7 days a week period.

About You

Due to the nature of the work, you will need to prove that they are a team player and have the ability to combine a security mind set with exceptional customer Service and people skills.

• Minimum 1 year of security experience (healthcare setting preferred)

• Ability to operate modern security technology, i.e. cameras, radios pagers, electronic locking apparatus and basic computer systems
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)

• Ability to write clear and concise incident reports, make written statements and keep registers and records
• A good degree of physical fitness is required due to the nature of the role
• Must be available to work on call basis, rostered shift Monday to Sunday over 24 hours, 7 days a week
