Gelato 2U in Napier is seeking a reliable Retail Supervisor to oversee daily store operations and support staff during busy times. You will handle cash, manage stock, and ensure a high standard of customer service.
The role requires 3–6 months of supervisory experience in a customer-facing environment, plus a Level 2 or higher qualification and solid food-safety practices. Weekend and peak-season work is essential.

Gelato 2U is a popular gelato and ice cream shop in Napier, serving both local customers and visitors to the Hawke’s Bay region. As our business can become particularly busy during weekends, public holidays and the summer tourist season, we are looking for a reliable and capable Retail Supervisor to join our team and assist with the day-to-day operation of the store.
Supervise daily retail operations and ensure smooth service during assigned shifts.
Lead and support retail staff during busy periods.
Serve customers, take orders and provide friendly and efficient customer service.
Operate the POS/EFTPOS system and handle cash transactions accurately.
Open and/or close the store when required.
Monitor stock levels of gelato, ingredients, packaging and other retail supplies.
Assist with stock ordering, receiving deliveries and stock rotation.
Ensure products and displays are properly presented and maintained.
Handle customer enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally.
Train and guide new or junior staff in customer service and store procedures.
Maintain store cleanliness and ensure food safety and hygiene requirements are followed.
Assist with staff task allocation and coordinate breaks during busy shifts.
Complete basic daily sales, cash-up and operational records.
Report stock shortages, equipment issues or other operational concerns to management.
To be considered for this position, you must:
Have at least 3–6 months of relevant supervisory or team-leading experience in retail, hospitality, food service or a similar customer-facing environment; or
Hold a relevant Level 2 or higher qualification.
Have good customer service and communication skills.
Be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, particularly during peak tourist periods.
Have a good understanding of workplace hygiene, cleanliness and food safety practices.
Be reliable, punctual and able to take responsibility for opening or closing shifts when rostered.
Be available to work weekends, public holidays and throughout the summer holiday period, as these are our busiest trading periods.
Be flexible with working hours and available to work additional hours/overtime when reasonably required.
