Job summary

Vivaan Enterprise Limited in the Waikato region is seeking two reliable Retail Assistants to join our convenience store. The role involves assisting with stock reception, checking and replenishing stock, and supporting daily store operations.

You will welcome customers, operate POS and EFTPOS, process sales and refunds, and maintain presentation and hygiene standards while following store procedures and safety rules.

Qualifications

• NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification or 1 year relevant work experience may substitute.
• Ability to work weekends, early mornings, evenings or public holidays.
• Right to work in New Zealand.
• Willing to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
• Clean character check.

Vivaan Enterprise Limited is seeking two reliable and hardworking Retail Assistants to join our convenience store in the Waikato region. The successful candidate will assist with receiving, checking, storing and replenishing stock, as well as supporting the day-to-day operations of the store.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, efficient assistance with product, price and availability enquiries.
• Operate POS and EFTPOS systems, handle cash accurately, provide correct change and follow till-balancing procedures.
• Process authorised sales, refunds, exchanges, discounts and loyalty transactions in line with store procedures.
• Replenish shelves, chillers, freezers and counter displays so key products remain available and presented well.
• Receive deliveries, check quantities and condition, report discrepancies and store products correctly.
• Assist with supplier communications, stock ordering and promotional opportunities while maintaining positive supplier relationships.
• Rotate stock using expiry-date and first-in, first-out procedures where applicable, removing damaged or expired items.
• Assist with stock counts, inventory checks, product labelling, price tickets and promotional displays.
• Keep counters, shelves, floors, entrances, food-service areas, equipment and back-of-house spaces clean and organised.
• Prepare or handle ready-to-eat food and beverages only where required, trained and permitted, following hygiene procedures.
• Follow identification-checking and refusal-of-sale procedures for age-restricted products where sold.
• Monitor the shop floor and promptly report suspected theft, hazards, incidents, cash discrepancies or security concerns.
• Support opening and closing tasks, security checks and clear shift handovers when rostered and trained.
• Training may be provided

• Good basic numeracy and the ability to handle cash, prices, discounts and change accurately.
• Reliability, punctuality, honesty, sound judgement and willingness to follow store procedures.
• Attention to detail when checking prices, stock quantities, expiry dates, deliveries and till transactions.
• Ability to remain organised, courteous and accurate during busy periods and while completing multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently when required and cooperate effectively with the manager and wider store team.
• Confidence learning the POS, EFTPOS, inventory, security and other systems used by the business.
• Previous retail experience in a convenience store, supermarket, petrol station or grocery environment is strongly preferred.
• A practical approach to cleaning, shelf replenishment, stock rotation, rubbish removal and store presentation.
• Physical ability to stand for much of a shift and safely move cartons or stock within the requirements of the role.
• Willingness to follow food-safety, hygiene, health and safety, security, loss-prevention and emergency procedures.
• Availability to work weekends as an essential requirement, as well as early mornings, evenings or public holidays.
• Full driver's licence and reliable transport or travel arrangements for all agreed shifts.
• Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand and may be asked to provide evidence during recruitment.
• Applicants should have knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Skills and Experience

• A New Zealand Qualification Framework (NZQF) Level 2 or Level 3 qualification;

OR

At least one year of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
