Job description

Location: Auckland (Auckland-based, with regular customer visits across Auckland and periodic travel elsewhere in NZ) Recruiting on behalf of client — an established dealer finance company

About Our Client

Ask Your HR is recruiting on behalf of a well-established dealer finance company based in Auckland. Our client provides stock funding and lending solutions to motor vehicle dealers across New Zealand, supporting dealers with inventory finance and cashflow needs. It's a hard-working, values-led business where the team pulls together and effort is genuinely recognised. If you want to join an organisation that takes its culture seriously, this could be the role for you.

About the Role

As the "eyes and ears" of the business, the Relationship Manager is the key link between customers and the company. You'll maintain and strengthen existing customer relationships, identify growth opportunities, and proactively pick up on risks — feeding valuable market and customer intelligence back to management.

This is a highly visible, field-based role: most of your time will be spent meeting customers face-to-face across Auckland, with periodic travel to other regions of New Zealand (roughly every three months, though this can vary depending on business needs). You'll also be expected to muck in on ad hoc duties and support the wider team whenever it's needed — we're a small team, and everyone pitches in.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing customers and key decision-makers
  • Identify opportunities to grow lending volumes, revenue, and customer engagement
  • Develop and execute customer call plans and account development plans
  • Regularly visit customers to understand their business performance, funding needs and challenges
  • Spot customer dissatisfaction, operational concerns or cashflow pressures early
  • Gather and report market intelligence — competitor activity, industry trends, customer sentiment, and shifting market conditions
  • Keep accurate records of customer interactions and opportunities in the CRM
  • Work with internal teams to resolve issues, structure solutions, and deliver good customer outcomes
  • Escalate any concerns around the value, quality or marketability of customer stock
Customer Stock Assessment
  • Regularly assess the quality, condition, value and marketability of customer stock during site visits
  • Monitor whether funded stock still suits the customer's business model and target market
  • Flag concerns where stock quality is deteriorating or purchasing decisions may increase risk
  • Monitor inventory ageing and identify slow-moving vehicles
  • Report to management on stock quality, turnover, ageing inventory, and anything that could affect the value or liquidity of the company's security position.
What You'll Bring
  • At least 5 years' total relationship management experience in New Zealand
  • Background in relationship management, account management, business development, or B2B sales
  • Strong leadership qualities, with a genuine commitment to team support and team spirit
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with business owners and managers
  • Commercial acumen — able to spot both opportunities and risks
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Comfortable working with CRM systems and Microsoft Office
  • Full NZ driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly
  • Willingness to take on ad hoc duties and support the team as needed
  • Comfortable working within a diverse, multicultural team
  • Hard-working, with a values-driven approach
Preferred
  • Experience in automotive finance, asset finance, banking, business lending, or the motor industry (highly regarded)
  • Understanding of dealership operations, stock funding, and business cashflow
  • Tertiary qualification in business, finance, commerce, or a related discipline
Personal Attributes

Relationship-focused and customer-centric; highly observant and commercially aware; proactive and self-motivated; curious, with a natural ability to uncover opportunities and issues; confident engaging with business owners and senior decision-makers; resilient, accountable and results-driven; team-oriented, with a strong commitment to supporting colleagues and customers; professional, trustworthy and highly credible.
