Job summary

Higgins Wellington is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead bid preparation and end-to-end project delivery within the Te Awa Kairangi Alliance. You will ensure quality, safety and commercial success while growing client and partner relations.

The role requires an engineering qualification, proven leadership, and strong cost control, forecasting and reporting skills to drive projects from tender to completion. Permanent, full-time with a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Diploma or Degree (essential).
  • Knowledge of NZS 3910 and the Construction Contracts Act.
  • Proven leadership with ability to motivate high‑performing teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with cost control, forecasting and reporting.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of projects, from bid through to completion.
  • Support tendering and pricing to produce competitive submissions.
  • Build strong client relationships and identify future work opportunities.
  • Oversee daily delivery, ensuring projects meet specifications.
  • Coordinate teams, subcontractors, plant and suppliers to stay on track.
  • Manage project financials, reporting and cost to complete.
  • Ensure smooth project administration (RFIs, variations, invoicing).
  • Drive safety, environmental and quality culture on site.
  • Lead risk management and mitigate issues proactively.
  • Collaborate with Alliance partners and procurement on subcontractor performance.
  • Plan and forecast workforce resourcing requirements.
  • Continuously improve productivity, methodologies and outcomes.

Higgins Wellington is looking for an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead the successful bidding and delivery of projects within the Te Awa Kairangi Project. This role is critical to ensuring high quality, safe and commercially successful outcomes while building strong relationships with clients, partners and internal teams.

This role supports delivery within the Te Awa Kairangi Alliance, a major project improving transport, walking and cycling connections around the SH2 Melling interchange and new rail station. The Alliance brings together Fletcher Construction, AECOM, NZTA, Taranaki Whanau and Ngāti Toa Rangatira to deliver this transformative project for the region.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of projects, from bid through to completion

What you’ll bring to the role:
