Job summary

Higgins is seeking a motivated Site Engineer to join our Surfacing and Road Marking team in New Zealand. You will help plan, manage and deliver diverse projects while prioritising safety and quality.

Key responsibilities include coordinating labour, plant and subcontractors, monitoring costs and ensuring compliance with specifications. You will travel as required and work night shifts when needed to support project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Civil/structural knowledge with civil construction exposure.
  • Experience in surfacing, road maintenance or infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning and delivery of surfacing and road marking projects.
  • Ensure work is on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, subcontractors and materials.
  • Monitor performance, productivity and costs; prepare records.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure safety and quality compliance.
  • Support contract administration, forecasting and reporting.
  • Build relationships with clients, suppliers and project teams.

Higgins is looking for a motivated and driven Site Engineer to join our Surfacing and Road Marking team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a variety of projects while developing your career with one of New Zealand's leading infrastructure businesses.

The successful candidate will be flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work night shifts and travel, including extended stays away from home.

What you'll be doing
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of surfacing and road marking projects
  • Ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to specification
  • Coordinating labour, plant, subcontractors, and materials
  • Monitoring project performance, productivity, and costs
  • Preparing quality documentation and project records
  • Conducting site inspections and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Supporting contract administration, forecasting, and reporting
  • Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and project teams
What you'll bring
  • Qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Experience in civil construction, surfacing, road maintenance, road marking, or infrastructure projects
  • Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management systems
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence
  • Willingness to work predominantly night shifts and travel as required
