Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

WORK - The Recruitment Co. – Auckland, North Island

Outstanding opportunity for a Project Engineer to get genuine end-to-end exposure across technically challenging civil and wastewater infrastructure projects.

You'll join an established contractor delivering complex wastewater treatment plants, with significant structural and civil elements including reinforced concrete tanks, foundations and associated infrastructure.
Rather than being responsible for one small piece of a larger project, you'll gain exposure across the complete delivery lifecycle – from design and planning through to construction, commissioning and handover.

The Role Working closely with the Project Manager, site teams, subcontractors and consultants, you'll help coordinate the successful delivery of complex wastewater projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting projects from design and pre-construction through to completion
  • Coordinating site activities, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers
  • Managing technical documentation, RFIs and design queries
  • Supporting project programming, procurement and cost control
  • Overseeing quality assurance and project documentation
  • Assisting with commercial and contractual requirements
  • Coordinating structural concrete works including tanks and foundations
  • Monitoring programme, quality, safety and project performance
  • Working closely with clients and key project stakeholders
  • Supporting commissioning and project handover

  • Coordinating structural concrete works including tanks and foundations
  • Monitoring programme, quality, safety and project performance
  • Working closely with clients and key project stakeholders
  • Supporting commissioning and project handover
A major advantage of this role is the breadth of exposure. The business self-performs key structural works and delivers design-and-build projects, giving its engineers the opportunity to understand how an entire treatment plant comes together from the ground up.

About You You'll ideally have:

  • A relevant Civil Engineering or Construction qualification
  • Experience as a Project Engineer or Site Engineer within civil construction
  • Exposure to water, wastewater, three waters, structures or heavy civil projects would be advantageous
  • Strong technical understanding and ability to interpret drawings and specifications
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to project delivery
  • The ambition to continue developing toward Project Management

Package The package is approximately $125,000, depending on experience, plus:

  • Company vehicle with private use
  • Performance bonus scheme
  • Strong performers can earn approximately $10,000–$15,000 in bonus
  • Exposure to technically complex infrastructure projects
  • Genuine progression and development opportunities
For an engineer who wants to become a well-rounded Project Manager, this is the type of environment where you can build experience across the technical, commercial and delivery sides of construction rather than being siloed into one area.
