Job summary

Watercare Services Limited is seeking a Process Engineer to bridge design experience with hands-on operational expertise at our water treatment facilities. You will support operations, optimise processes, and lead improvements from small to medium scale.

Ideal candidates have a Washington Accord engineering degree and 3+ years in engineering/operations, with strong analytical and project management skills and a valid NZ driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level engineering degree from a Washington Accord accredited program.
• 3+ years' experience in an engineering/operations setting, preferably in water/wastewater.
• Strong drive to develop knowledge of the water industry.
• Experience in data analysis, process design and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and operational support to the operations team.
• Conduct process analysis and develop test methodologies for optimisation.
• Troubleshoot plant issues affecting process performance.
• Manage and deliver improvement projects to enhance plant performance and reliability.
• Review planning briefs and consultant submissions for operational input.
• Support projects/commissioning with on-site upgrades and improvements.
• Participate in an out-of-hours callout roster for emergency coverage.

The Watercare team hasa vacancy for a Process Engineer, a role well suited to an engineer with design experience seeking to augment that with operational experience. As a Process Engineer, you will be involved in work ranging from hands‑on operational trouble‑shooting and optimisation to initiating, delivering, and commissioning of small to medium improvement projects.

The key tasks of the role include:

• Providing technical and operational support to the operations team.
• Conduct process analysis and develop specific test methodologies for process optimisation.
• Trouble‑shooting plant issues affecting process performance.
• Managing and delivering improvement projects to improve and optimise plant performance and reliability.
• Reviewing planning investigation briefs and consultant submissions and providing operational information.
• Supporting the projects/commissioning team with on‑site upgrades and improvement works.
• Participating in an out‑of‑hours callout roster, which provides emergency coverage for our water treatment plants.

In this role you will bring:

• A Washington Accord accredited bachelor's degree in either Chemical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
• 3+ years' experience in an engineering/operations environment, preferably in the water/wastewater industry.
• A strong drive to develop knowledge and understanding of the water industry.
• Experience in process control, process design, process issue troubleshooting/analysis.
• Effective project management skills.
• Experience in data analysis, plant processes and report preparation.
• Current NZ Full Driver’s license.
