Job summary

Dunedin City Council in Dunedin, South Island, seeks an experienced Management Accountant to join the Finance team. You will provide expert financial advice, budgeting support, forecasting, reporting and analysis to help leaders make informed decisions.

You will transform financial information into meaningful business insights and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring integrity of financial systems and reporting frameworks.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with CA membership.
• Bachelor of Commerce degree or similar qualification.
• Experience in a management accounting or similar finance role.
• Strong experience preparing monthly and annual financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify trends and provide practical recommendations.
• Proven ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse organisation.

Responsibilities

• Provide budgeting support, forecasting, reporting and analysis for council departments.
• Partner with portfolio of departments to provide expert financial advice.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and annual planning & budgeting processes.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced and capable Management Accountant to join our Finance team in Dunedin. You'll bring integrity, sound judgement, and a genuine commitment to getting things right, while building strong relationships across the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys building strong stakeholder relationships and transforming financial information into meaningful business insights. You'll work in partnership with a portfolio of Council departments, providing expert financial advice, budgeting support, forecasting, reporting, and analysis to help leaders make informed decisions.

You'll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support annual planning and budgeting processes, and play a key role in maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of Council's financial systems and reporting frameworks.

Ideally you will have

• A Bachelor of Commerce degree or similar relevant tertiary qualification
• Full Chartered Accountant (CA) membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
• Experience in a management accounting or similar finance role
• Strong experience preparing monthly and annual financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and provide practical recommendations
• Proven ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse organisation

Salary range: $99,839 - $117,458 per annum
