Job summary

Whau Valley School in Northland is seeking a dedicated Year 1–6 teacher with a current practising certificate to join our vibrant school from 2027. You will help coordinate learning and behavioural support with our Learning Support Team, whānau and external agencies in a trauma-informed, inclusive environment.

You will lead Learning Assistants, support teacher capability, and strengthen inclusive practices in line with the NZ Curriculum and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, working closely with the Senior

Qualifications

  • Registered NZ teacher with current practising certificate.
  • Experience in a learning support role.
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, whānau and external agencies.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused and passionate about positive learner outcomes.
  • Highly organised with ability to coordinate multiple cases and support.
  • Confident leading Learning Assistants and supporting teacher capability.
  • Culturally responsive and committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Inclusive educator with strong knowledge of the NZ Curriculum.

Responsibilities

Whau Valley School is seeking a dedicated, organised and highly collaborative team member to join our vibrant Year 1–6 kura from the beginning of 2027.

As a trauma-informed, progressive and inclusive school, we are committed to ensuring every learner is understood, supported and empowered to succeed. Working alongside our senior leadership team, teachers, learning assistants, whānau and specialist agencies, to play a key role in coordinating learning and behavioural support and strengthening inclusive practice across our school.

We seek someone who is:
  • A registered New Zealand teacher with a current practising certificate.
  • Experienced in a learning support role.
  • Confident building positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, whānau and external agencies.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused and passionate about achieving positive outcomes for all learners.
  • A highly organised and confident in managing multiple cases and coordinating support.
  • Confident supporting teacher capability and leading Learning Assistants.
  • Culturally responsive and committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • An inclusive educator with a strong knowledge of the NZ Curriculum.
