Māngere East School in Auckland is seeking an energetic educator to join our team in 2027 as Learning Support and Special Education Coordinator. This fully released role advocates for all rangatahi with diverse learning needs and ensures timely, culturally responsive support across our kura.

The ideal candidate will hold NZ Teacher Certification, be committed to inclusive practice, and support staff with One Plans/IEPs, Universal Design for Learning, and partnerships with families.

Qualifications

  • Holds a current New Zealand Teacher Certification.
  • Strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Experience in inclusive education with diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of UDL and NZ Curriculum phases.
  • Experience securing external funding and support.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Māngere East Primary School is seeking an energetic, values-driven educator to join our team in 2027. This position is fully-released. The purpose of the Learning Support and Special Education Coordinator role is to advocate for and ensure that all rangatahi with diverse learning needs receive timely, culturally responsive support to fulfil their potential. This role is to also help build capacity in inclusive education across our kura.

Key responsibilities
  • Identification: The systematic identification and record keeping of strengths and needs.
  • Support and liaison: Coordinating stakeholder involvement in collaborative planning, multi-agency support, and funding applications (e.g. ORS, RTLB, IRF).
  • Transitions: Coordinating seamless transitions into, through, and out of our kura.
  • Learner-centered support : Tracking progress and empowering rangatahi agency.
  • Capacity building: Mentor kaiako and kaiāwhina to strengthen inclusive practice.
The ideal candidate
  • Holds a current New Zealand Teacher Certification and demonstrates a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Is knowledgeable about and deeply committed to strengths-based, inclusive education.
  • Has successfully enhanced outcomes for diverse learners and neurodivergent rangatahi through action-oriented One Plans / IEPs, that have been collaboratively developed and actively used by staff and whānau.
  • Has a good understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the ‘Expanded’ and Phase 1 of the NZ Curriculum, Te Whāriki , and cultural perspectives on gifted and talented learners.
  • Has experience accessing external support and Ministry of Education funding processes.
  • Is a team player and a self-directed learner, who shows initiative and works flexibly to achieve identified outcomes.
  • Is an exceptional communicator, highly professional and enjoys building collaborative partnerships.
  • Is digitally proficient, using ICT to optimise administrative tasks and communicate effectively across our school community.
  • Being bilingual is an advantage.
