Job summary

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is seeking a practical Construction Project Manager to lead the construction phase of multiple housing projects. You will ensure safe, on-time delivery, within budget, and up to required standards while maintaining clear communication across the project team.

You will own site operations, manage build partners, and work with a collaborative team, from pre-start meetings to health and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ project management experience in construction.
• Strong understanding of NZS 3915 and NZS 3604.
• Contract management, negotiation and resolving construction issues.
• Ability to prepare project schedules, manage risks, and ensure HSE compliance.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement with iwi/community groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication, planning and organisational skills.
• Comfortable in an Agile, team-based environment and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of government processes is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead the construction phase of multiple housing projects ensuring safety, on-time delivery and quality.
• Manage site operations, build partners, and collaborate with the project team.
• Conduct pre-start meetings, plan resources, monitor health and safety compliance.
• Mentor Assistant Project Managers and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure quality and compliance across sites and manage risks.
• Maintain strong reporting and relationship-building with stakeholders.
• Support and coordinate with the Newmarket office team during set hours.
