We specialise in the sale of new, nearly-new and high-quality used European and Japanese prestige vehicles, representing brands including Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Jaguar. With over 300 vehicles in stock, three sales locations across Auckland and a dedicated procurement team sourcing vehicles directly from Japan and the UK, we offer a seamless, transparent and customer-focused experience.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a senior Finance Manager to lead our financial operations and contribute to the ongoing success and expansion of the business.
Position Summary
The Finance Manager will be responsible for planning, organising, directing, controlling and coordinating the financial and accounting activities of JP Autos. This is a senior leadership role that requires a commercially astute professional who can provide strategic financial guidance, ensure robust financial controls, and support the business's growth objectives. The role reports directly to the Director and works closely with sales, operations and procurement teams to drive financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy, Planning and Budgeting
- Develop, implement and monitor budgetary and accounting strategies, policies and plans in consultation with the Director and other managers
- Prepare long-range profit forecasts, budgets and financial reports to support strategic decision-making
- Assess capital finance proposals and the financial status of operational projects
Financial Operations and Reporting
- Direct the preparation of financial reports that summarise and forecast the organisation's financial position, including income statements, balance sheets and analyses of future earnings
- Provide financial information and interpret the implications for business performance and funding needs
- Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of accounting systems
Vehicle Stock, Cash Flow and Cost Management
- Manage vehicle inventory financing (floorplan facilities) and monitor stock turnover to optimise cash flow and minimise holding costs
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, ensuring adequate liquidity for vehicle procurement, import duties and operational expenses
- Monitor and control operating costs across sales locations, including staffing, marketing, rent and facility expenses
- Manage foreign exchange risk associated with vehicle imports from Japan and the UK
Finance & Insurance (F&I) Business Management
- Lead and support the dealership's finance and insurance function, ensuring competitive financing and insurance solutions are offered to customers
- Build and maintain strong relationships with banking partners, financiers and insurance providers
- Analyse F&I product penetration and profitability, identifying opportunities for growth
Compliance, Tax and Audit
- Ensure compliance with all relevant New Zealand financial legislation, accounting standards and tax obligations (GST, PAYE, income tax)
- Liaise with external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process
- Maintain robust internal controls and risk management frameworks
Strategic Advisory and Business Support
- Advise the Director on investment strategies, sources of funds and the distribution of earnings
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business growth, new site openings and expansion opportunities
- Work closely with sales, procurement and operations teams to align financial planning with commercial objectives
Qualifications & Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field is preferred, or
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior financial management or accounting role
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management and cost control
Skills & Attributes
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to think strategically and operate at a senior management level
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and compliance
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems
- Ability to work independently, lead initiatives and drive results
- Fluency in English is essential for internal reporting and stakeholder communication
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) is desirable to support communication with the company's significant Chinese-speaking customer base and to facilitate coordination with procurement and supply chain contacts
- Experience with F&I (Finance & Insurance) operations
- Understanding of foreign exchange risk management
- Professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA or equivalent) is an advantage
