Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking an Emergency Medicine Registrar for Nelson Hospital on a fixed-term 6 or 12 month contract. You will contribute to high-quality ED care across a multidisciplinary team, with broad exposure to trauma, paediatrics and non-ED runs as available.

The role involves varied shifts from day to night, with rostered weekends. You will work towards strengthening clinical assessment, treatment and disposition decisions in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • Trainee registered with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine is required.
  • Must hold or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
  • Commitment to ethical treatment of patients is essential.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across teams.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, treat and disposition patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver ED care.
  • Assist in non-ED runs where available (Cardiology, Orthopaedics, General Medicine).
  • Support rostered shifts including day, evening, night, and weekend patterns.

About the Role

As an Emergency Medicine Registrar, you will assist indelivering Emergency Medicine to patients working across a multidisciplinaryteam and be responsible for assessment, treatment and disposition of patients.

Some non-ED runs may be available and include Cardiology,Orthopaedics and General Medicine. There will be emergency roster shiftpatterns - AM, mid, PM and night shifts plus weekend shifts.

The hours of work are 8.00AM to 5.00PM (day-shift); 12.00PMto 9.00PM (mid-shift); 4.00PM to 1.00AM (evening-shift); 11.00PM to 8.00AM(night-shift). There is no on-call but there will be additional duties you mightbe offered to pick up.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Emergency Department (ED) currently sees over 31,000patients per year and is accredited for 12 months of Rural/Regional training byACEM. The case mix is varied and covers the entire spectrum of emergencymedicine including trauma and paediatrics.

You will join a highly motivated and experienced team thatincludes seven emergency physicians and experienced ED senior medical officers,dedicated nursing staff and allied health.

  • Need to be a Trainee registered with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine;
  • Hold valid registration or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ);

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in NewZealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
