The New Zealand Government is seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine professional to join our team at Nelson Hospital. You will play a key role in providing emergency care to a diverse patient population and participate in a structured roster, including nights and weekends.
The ideal candidate will hold a FACEM or equivalent qualification and have significant Emergency Medicine experience. You will also contribute to training and development within our service, ensuring high-quality care across the region.
As a key member of our Emergency Medicine team, you will play an essential role in providing comprehensive emergency care to patients across the Nelson Tasman region. You will participate in rostered shift work, including weekends and nights, as part of a well‑structured team. You will also contribute to the supervision and training of registrars, house officers, and medical students, and play a key role in the continued development of our service as we grow into our new expanded space.
Nelson Hospital’s ED provides 24/7 emergency care to a diverse patient population. It currently operates under increasing demand – the department sees 100‑120 patients a day on its busiest days, equating broadly to more than 33000 presentations per annum. Our ED team delivers comprehensive acute care, managing a wide range of medical, surgical, trauma and paediatric emergencies. We work closely with inpatient teams, primary care providers and retrieval services to ensure seamless patient care across the region.
