Job summary

Stantec’s Buildings team in New Zealand is seeking a Design Manager to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and translate client briefs into robust design solutions for data centres and related facilities.

You will oversee technical delivery across NZ and Australia, manage budgets and schedules, and collaborate with group leaders, subconsultants and contractors to ensure quality outputs and successful proposals. This role offers flexible working arrangements and strong development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer or equivalent qualification.
• Significant experience (10–15 years) delivering complex data centre and infrastructure projects.
• Proven technical leadership, with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams and provide trusted advice on complex engineering challenges.
• Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build long‑term partnerships and influence positive project outcomes.
• Commercial awareness and sound engineering judgement, balancing technical excellence with project scope, programme and budget.

Responsibilities

• Lead both in-house and external project technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution for clients.
• Ensure outputs are delivered on time and within allocated budgets, meeting client requirements.
• Implement sound methodology for technical delivery; lead planning and production of all technical deliverables.
• Coordinate with group leaders to ensure quality assurance, fee budgets and schedule time.
• Develop and maintain constructive relationships with contractors, clients and other consultants; support business development activities.
