Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a certified Construction Welder to join our client’s team in Queenstown, NZ. You will fabricate and join metal components for structural steel, pipefitting, and custom metal structures on active construction sites.

The ideal candidate is meticulous, safety-minded, and proficient in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW, with the ability to read drawings and weld to project specs. On-site, on a range of weather conditions, you will uphold safety standards and quality.

Qualifications

• Certified welder (Red Seal or equivalent) with construction welding experience.
• Proficient in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW and other welding processes.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and welding specs.
• Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy and safety practices.
• Physically fit to work in varied positions on site in Queenstown.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a certified and highly skilled Construction Welder to join their team undertaking projects in and around Queenstown . This role is essential for fabricating and joining metal components used in various construction applications, including structural steel erection, pipefitting, and creating custom metal structures. You will be responsible for performing welding tasks to the highest standards of quality and safety, ensuring structural integrity and adherence to project specifications. The ideal candidate is meticulous, safety-conscious, and proficient with various welding techniques. This is a hands‑on role for a dedicated welder in the Eastern Cape region.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform welding operations using various methods (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW) on structural steel, pipes, and other metal components.


• Read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and shop drawings.


• Prepare metal surfaces for welding, including cleaning, grinding, and beveling.


• Ensure all welds meet required specifications, quality standards, and codes.


• Inspect completed welds for defects and ensure proper fusion and penetration.


• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Construction Welder with relevant certifications (e.g., Red Seal Welder).


• Proficiency in multiple welding processes and techniques.


• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.


• Strong understanding of metal properties and welding metallurgy.


• Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices for welding in a construction environment.


• Physical strength and dexterity to work in various positions and environments in Queenstown .
