Job summary

Barnsy's All Trade Services Ltd in Christchurch is seeking an experienced Welder to join our growing civil construction team. You will weld, fabricate and install steel and metal components from drawings and specs, working hands-on with our current crew on site.

Ideal candidates have proven welding skills, can read drawings, and work well in a team. A NZ driver’s license and site safety readiness are preferred; a pre-employment drug test may be required.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in welding and metal fabrication.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
  • Physically capable of manual work and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret and work from engineering drawings, plans and specifications.
  • Fabricate and assemble components from steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
  • Carry out MIG, TIG and ARC welding as required.
  • Prepare materials for fabrication, including cutting and finishing.
  • Assemble and fit fabricated components accurately and safely.
  • Carry out repairs and maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Perform quality checks to meet standards and specs.

We are a well established Civil construction company in Christchurch, with 25+ years is business, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality workmanship to our loyal clients. We are seeking an experienced Welder to join our growing team.

About the role

This is a hands-on role working in the Christchurch. You will have proven skills with the fabrication, welding, assembly and installation of a variety of steel and metal components, while working from engineering drawings, plans and specifications. Your primary task is to integrate and support the current team of construction workers, learning how to diagnose problems and identify solutions to resolve them.

Key responsibilities

Read, interpret and work from engineering drawings, plans, specifications and sketches

Assist with the design and development of fabricated components and practical engineering solutions

Measure, mark, cut, shape, assemble and weld materials to required specifications

Fabricate and repair components using structural steel, stainless steel and aluminium

Carry out MIG, TIG and ARC welding as required

Prepare materials and components for fabrication, including cutting, grinding, drilling and finishing

Assemble and fit fabricated components accurately

Carry out repairs, modifications and maintenance of plant, equipment and structural components

Conduct quality checks to ensure completed work meets required standards and specifications

Safely operate welding, fabrication and general workshop equipment and tools

About you

Hold a current valid New Zealand Drivers' License or be prepared to gain a New Zealand Drivers' License endorsed with appropriate Classes as needed

Proven skills with fabrication, welding, assembly and installation of steel and metal components

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider civil construction team

Ready to learn from on-the-job training when necessary

Willingness to work as a team member, follow instructions and help when needed
