Job summary

Allen Custom Drills in Ashburton, Canterbury, New Zealand, is seeking a Welding Engineer to join our hands-on manufacturing team. You will read CAD drawings, fabricate to spec, and test fits on light to heavy steel components.

This role emphasizes safe practices, quality control, and teamwork with a Monday–Friday schedule (8am–5pm). Experience with MIG welding and production code is valued; training and growth opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• MIG welding experience with 2+ years preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
• Commitment to quality and safe working practices.
• Clear communication and proactive attitude in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Welding fabrication: MIG welding light to heavy steel and assembling sub-assemblies.
• Read drawings and fabricate accurately to measurements and strength.
• Operate workshop equipment with emphasis on safety and quality.
• Perform material checks, documentation, and final tests per procedures.
• Support production flow to meet deadlines and assist teammates.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Welding Fabrication: MIG welding light to heavy steel, prep, building sub-assemblies, fit-up and test-fits.
• From CAD to a Finished Build: Read drawings, fabricate accurately to measurements and strength.
• Operate Equipment: Presses, lathes, saws, forklifts and engineering equipment with a high regard to H&S.
• Quality & Safety: Material checks, documentation, final tests and carrying out operating procedures.
• Teamwork : Jump in across production to keep the line moving, meet deadlines and equal contribution.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Integrity: You do the right thing, even when no one is watching and work safely and effectively with honesty.
• Skills: Experience of at least 2 years of MIG welding 3-25mm thickness. Tickets/Quals a bonus, not essential.
• Ambition: For the best quality work and results,have clear communication, being reliable and proactive.
• Confidence in CAD: Reading plans and working to production schedules.
