Job summary

Tradestaff New Zealand in Christchurch is seeking an experienced Fabricator/Welder to join a well‑established engineering workshop in Central City. You will translate drawings into finished components and perform MIG, TIG or ARC welding across varied fabrication projects.

Responsibilities include reading drawings, measuring, cutting, fitting, grinding and preparing materials, setting up equipment, inspecting final work for dimensional accuracy and maintaining safe, organised workshop practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ hands-on fabrication and welding experience.
  • Strong MIG, TIG, and/or ARC welding capability.
  • Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Solid fabrication skills with good mechanical and technical knowledge.
  • High attention to detail and pride in producing quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a workshop team.
  • Relevant trade qualification or current welding tickets are advantageous.

Fabricator/Welder

Tradestaff is looking for an experienced Fabricator/Welder to join a well-established engineering workshop in Central City, Christchurch. We’re after someone who can produce accurate, high-quality work and confidently take fabrication projects from drawings through to finished components.

Location: Central City, Christchurch

Start date: Immediate start

Pay rate: $35–$40 per hour + weekly pay

What You'll Be Doing
  • Complete MIG, TIG, and ARC welding across varied fabrication projects
  • Fabricate structural steel, components, and custom assemblies
  • Read engineering drawings and translate specifications into finished work
  • Measure, cut, fit, grind, and prepare materials accurately
  • Set up equipment and select appropriate welding processes for each job

What We’re Looking For
