Job summary

Summerset Retirement Villages in New Plymouth is seeking a casual Café Assistant for Summerset at Pohutakawa Place. You’ll help deliver friendly service, prepare coffee and cabinet food, and create a welcoming space for residents, families, and visitors.

You’ll work with the Chef Manager and Café Supervisor to maintain a warm, consistent café experience. The role is casual with hours on an as-needed basis, offering a friendly team and opportunities to grow within Summerset.

Job Description

We’re now looking for a casual Café Assistant for our Summerset at Pohutakawa Placewho shares our love for people and hospitality.

You’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth running of our café. From making great coffee to creating tasty cabinet food and light meals, you’ll help make our café a warm and welcoming place for residents, their families, and visitors. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, presenting, and serving food and drinks to a high standard
• Assisting with catering for village events and resident functions
• Handling cash and reconciling daily takings

You’ll work closely with the Chef Manager, Café Supervisor, and wider village team to deliver a café experience that’s welcoming, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable.

This is a casual role offering hours on an as needed basis.

You will bring a warm and positive approach to everything you do, along with:

• A warm, friendly personality with great customer service skills
• Excellent communication and the ability to multitask
