Job summary

Summerset Retirement Villages in Waikanae is seeking a warm, friendly Café Assistant to join our village café team. You’ll deliver welcoming service, craft quality coffee, and prepare light meals for residents, families and visitors.

This casual, as-and-when-required role supports the Chef Manager and Café Supervisor. The ideal candidate has hospitality experience, superb barista skills, and a genuine passion for service within a community-focused setting.

Qualifications

• Previous hospitality or café experience.
• Superb barista skills.
• A warm, friendly personality with great customer service skills.
• Excellent communication and the ability to multitask.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Job Description

We believe that a great cup of coffee and a warm smile can brighten anyone’s day. We're more than just a café, we’re a community hub, a space for connection, and a team that supports and looks out for each other. We’re now looking for a Café Assistant for our growing Waikanae Village who shares our love for people and hospitality.

Responsibilities

You’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth running of our café. From making great coffee to creating tasty cabinet food and light meals, you’ll help make our café a warm and welcoming place for residents, their families, and visitors. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, presenting, and serving food and drinks to a high standard
• Providing outstanding barista services
• Assisting with catering for village events and resident functions
• Handling cash and reconciling daily takings

This is a casual role, working on an 'as and when required basis'. The successful candidate will be available to work day shifts across the week and able to provide flexibility to meet service demands.

You’ll work closely with the Chef Manager, Café Supervisor, and wider village team to deliver a café experience that’s welcoming, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable.
