Job summary

Summerset Retirement Villages is seeking a Café Assistant for our Avonhead village in Christchurch. This casual, as-needed role involves making coffee, preparing cabinet foods and light meals, and creating a welcoming cafe environment for residents, families, and visitors.

You will work closely with the village team to deliver friendly service, maintain high standards, and support events. Flexibility for short-notice shifts is required.

Job Description

We’re now looking for a Café Assistant for our Avonhead villagewho shares our love for people and hospitality.

You’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth running of our café. From making great coffee to creating tasty cabinet food and light meals, you’ll help make our café a warm and welcoming place for residents, their families, and visitors. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, presenting, and serving food and drinks to a high standard
• Assisting with catering for village events and resident functions
• Handling cash and reconciling daily takings

You’ll work closely with the Chef Manager, Café Supervisor, and wider village team to deliver a café experience that’s welcoming, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable.

This is a casual role, working on an as-needed basis, with shifts often offered at short notice.

Qualifications

You will bring a warm and positive approach to everything you do, along with:

• A warm, friendly personality with great customer service skills
• Excellent communication and the ability to multitask
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
