Foodstuffs NZ’s Pak’nSave Rangiora is seeking a trade-qualified Butcher to lead the busy Butchery Department in a fast-paced supermarket. You will oversee day-to-day operations, cut and prepare meat, and coach a skilled team to deliver quality and value to the local community.

This leadership role focuses on sales, gross profit, wage budgets, and strict food safety and health & safety standards. You’ll drive product range improvements and maintain high department standards, while delivering

Qualifications

Are you ready to lead a very busy Butchery department in a dynamic fast paced retail environment?

We’re looking for a trade-qualified Butcher with proven leadership experience to take charge of our Butchery Department and deliver excellence every day.

About the Role:

As Butchery Manager, you will oversee all day-to-day operations. This includes delivering the highest quality at the best prices to our community, leading and developing a skilled team, managing sales and gross profit, keeping wage budgets on track, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and health & safety requirements. You’ll also be responsible for cutting, preparation, and presentation standards, along with driving improvements in product range and merchandising to keep the department fresh, appealing, and competitive.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Inspiring, leading, training, and motivating butchers and apprentices
  • Managing sales, gross profit, and wage budgets
  • Ensuring all food safety and health & safety requirements are delivered to the highest standard
  • Overseeing cutting, preparation, presentation, and value-added products
  • Delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high department standards
What We’re Looking For:

You’ll be a trade-qualified Butcher with at least three years management experience. You’ll have a proven ability to lead and inspire a team, a strong knowledge of meat cuts, processing and quality standards. Excellent organisational and time-management skills are essential, along with an understanding of inventory systems and gross profit drivers (SAP experience is a bonus). Above all, you’ll bring a calm, positive attitude to a fast-paced retail environment and a strong commitment to safety and compliance.

Work Schedule:

Full-time, 45 hours per week. Specific working days and hours will be determined during the interview process.
