Job summary

JobSpace in Christchurch is seeking two keen Assistant Gardeners to join our team. You will be hands-on outdoors, enjoy physical work, and help with garden maintenance across sites.

Full-time role with a minimum of 30 hours per week and a pay rate of $24–$30 per hour, depending on skills and experience. The roster includes weekend work, and on-the-job training will be provided.

Qualifications

• A hard working, determined attitude.
• No issues with working outside in the elements or early start.
• Previous experience in gardening or landscaping would be ideal, but not required.
• A vehicle and full driver's license to get between work sites is required.
• No formal experience required, as on the job training will be provided.
• Please note - successful applicants will be required to pass a drug test and a MoJ check.

Responsibilities

• loading, unloading and moving garden supplies and equipment
• preparing garden sites and plots using hand tools and machines
• assisting with planting, transplanting and positioning flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns
• maintaining gardens by watering, weeding, pruning, mulching and fertilising
• operating and adjusting irrigation systems and using protection strategies
• raking, aerating, dethatching, fertilising and mowing lawns
• spraying and dusting trees, shrubs, lawns and gardens, as directed, to control pests, weeds and disease
• cleaning gardens and removing rubbish
