Job summary

Jenny Oakley The Transformer Limited in Christchurch is seeking a contracting Garden Assistant to join the Gardens of Villa Toscana on the Port Hills. You will help maintain a mature, landscaped property and support garden tours.

The role runs Monday to Wednesday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm with some seasonal variation; flexibility to add days is appreciated. You will work with a small, skilled team and use power tools as needed.

Qualifications

• Prior contracting or paid work in gardening/ horticulture.
• Able to operate power tools safely and effectively.
• Has a valid driver's license and access to transport.
• Comfortable working with a small, skilled team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general gardening tasks on a large private property.

We are offering a unique opportunity to join a small, highly-skilled team at the Gardens of Villa Toscana in Christchurch as a contracting Garden Assistant.

The key services you would provide would include maintaining and caring for a beautiful, mature and large private property on the Port Hills, developed over 25 years, and which is now open for Garden Tours.

We will require assistance Monday – Wednesday between the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm, with some seasonal variation. Flexibility to provide additional services on other days would be very beneficial.

What you will be doing

You would assist with all general gardening needs in a botanically diverse and richly landscaped environment, alongside our knowledgeable and experienced team members.

What we are looking for

• Has a strong inclination toward and enjoyment of nature, gardening and horticulture; with a cheerful enthusiastic disposition;
• Physically fit and able to manage hands-on tasks and hillside slopes;
• Holds a full driver’s license and has access to own motor vehicle;
• Is flexible and has great time management;
• Is organised, focused, and loves to work with a team;
• Has previous work or contracting experience in gardening and / or horticulture;
• Is experienced with the operation of power tools.

This is a contracting role, with a flexible start date that can be mutually agreed.
