Job summary

Hamilton Boys High School is seeking a reliable Gardener / Groundsperson to maintain gardens, grounds, and outdoor areas. This hands-on role focuses on keeping the school environment safe, tidy, and welcoming for students, staff and visitors, with support from our straightforward maintenance system.

The role covers weeding, pruning, mowing, edging, waste management and basic equipment operation. Applicants should be physically fit, self‑motivated, able to work in all weather, and pass NZ Police

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform outdoor manual work.
• Physically fit and capable in all weather conditions.
• Good communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Weeding, pruning, fertilising and planting of existing gardens.
• Tree pruning.
• Tractor, ride-on or push-mowing and line trimming.
• Hard surface blowing and leaf collection.
• Sports field maintenance and line-marking.

We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking Gardener / Groundsperson to join our grounds maintenance team at Hamilton Boys High School. This hands-on role involves maintaining the school’s gardens, grounds, and outdoor areas, ensuring a safe, tidy, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Our easy-to-follow school maintenance system will give you the confidence and ability to settle into this role with ease.

Key Responsibilities:

• Weeding, pruning, fertilising, and future planting of existing gardens.
• Tree pruning
• Tractor, ride-on or push-mowing and line trimming
• Hard surface blowing and leaf collection
• Sports field maintenance and line-marking
• Rubbish collection and basic waste/recycling management

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude
• Comfortable working independently or as part of a small team
• Good communication skills and attention to detail
• Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor manual work
• Happy to work in all weather conditions
• Must be able to pass a NZ Police vetting check
• Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand
