Job summary

Alfen is seeking a Technical Specialist E to shape the technical standard of our smart energy solutions and contribute to the energy transition. You will work on electrical engineering aspects—from substations to energy storage—collaborating with engineers, production and projects teams.

We seek an experienced professional with a strong background in electrical engineering and knowledge of ETAP; Dutch and English language skills are essential.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems Technology or Power Systems.
• Minimum 5 years in LV/MV distribution, utility-scale renewables, or power system protections.
• Experience with ETAP.
• PowerFactory knowledge is a plus.
• Proficient in Dutch and English; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to standardization of electrical components and systems.
• Review and improve system designs per IEC, EN, and NEN standards.
• Perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit) using ETAP.
• Perform electrical protection studies with ETAP.
• Create and maintain power system protection documents and coordinate safety studies.
• Maintain and optimize ETAP models and libraries.
• Support project teams in implementing energy storage systems and transformer stations into MV grids.

We’re looking for a new colleague: a Technical Specialist E (Electrical Engineer Specialist) who will help define the technical standard of our solutions. At Alfen, you’ll work on the electrical engineering side of smart energy solutions – from transformer substations to energy storage systems. You ensure our designs are technically sound, scalable, and meet the highest standards. You’ll collaborate with engineers, production, and project teams – and you’ll have the freedom to improve and standardize our systems.

What You Will Be Working On

• Contributing to standardization of electrical components and systems, and optimization of designs and execution.
• Reviewing, calculating, and improving the system designs in accordance with the applicable IEC, EN, and NEN standards.
• Perform power system studies, such as load flow, short circuit analysis, and electrical components sizing with dedicated industry software tool (ETAP).
• Perform electrical power system protection studies with dedicated industry software tool (ETAP).
• Creating and maintaining up to date power system protection documents and coordination of safety studies for projects, production, and commissioning teams.
• Being responsible for maintaining and optimizing the ETAP models and libraries within the department.
• Being the all-round technical expert in the domain of electrical engineering, supporting the project teams in implementation of energy storage systems and transformer stations into medium-voltage utility grids.

You Bring

• A solid academic background in Electrical Engineering or Energy Systems Technology or Power Systems (BSc/MSc).
• Minimum 5 year work experience related to at least one of the following segments: low- and medium-voltage electrical power distribution, or utility-scale renewable energy systems, or power system protections.
• Experience with electrical engineering software tools like ETAP.
• Knowledge of Power Factory is considered nice-to-have.
• Knowledge of inverter-based power systems is considered nice-to-have.
• The drive to contribute to the energy transition at a system level.
• Good communication skills and proficiency in both Dutch and English language. Initiative, critical mindset, problem solving attitude, eye for details and accuracy complete the profile.
