Job summary

Alfen is seeking a Senior Project Engineer ESS to translate customer needs into advanced electrical designs for modular energy storage projects. You will work with project managers, designers, production teams and customers to deliver safe, compliant and high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities span from sales proposals to installed and tested systems, including pre-sales input and site testing. The role demands leadership in electrical design and ongoing product improvements within BESS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Energy Technology or comparable discipline.
• In-depth knowledge of energy systems and experience analyzing and improving electrical drawings.
• Experience with MS Office, PDM and ERP systems.
• Ability to organize work systematically and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive, innovative mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
• Good command of English; Dutch is a plus.
• VCA VOL certificate, or willingness to obtain one.

• Designing, reviewing and optimizing electrical schematics, drawings and BOMs.
• Performing electrical calculations and ensuring compliance with national and international standards (IEC).
• Coordinating with internal and external technical teams for alignment and project execution.
• Supporting product, FAT and control system testing on site.
• Providing technical input during pre-sales and after-sales phases.
• Contributing to product improvements and standardisation within BESS solutions.

Become a Senior Project Engineer ESS at Alfen! Contribute to the smart technology that powers Europe’s energy infrastructure. Translate customer needs into advanced electrical designs and help shape innovative, safe and sustainable battery energy storage projects.

What will you do?

As a Senior Project Engineer ESS, you hold technical responsibility for modular energy storage projects—from the initial sales proposal all the way to a fully installed, tested and commissioned system. You work closely with project managers, installation managers, designers, production teams and customers to deliver high‑quality, compliant and safe solutions.

Your Main Responsibilities Include

• Translating customer requirements into creative, functional and technically robust electrical designs.
• Designing, reviewing and optimising electrical schematics, technical drawings and bills of materials.
• Performing electrical calculations and ensuring compliance with national and international standards (including IEC guidelines).
• Coordinating with internal and external technical teams to ensure alignment and consistent project execution.
• Supporting product, FAT and control system testing on site.
• Providing technical input during both pre‑sales and after‑sales phases.
• Actively contributing to product improvements, quality enhancements and standardisation within BESS solutions.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Energy Technology or a comparable discipline.
• In‑depth knowledge of energy systems and experience analysing and improving electrical drawings.
• Experience with MS Office, PDM and ERP systems.
• The ability to organise your work systematically and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams.
• A proactive, innovative mindset and strong problem‑solving skills.
• Good command of the English language; Dutch is a plus (language courses are available).
• A VCA VOL certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
