Job summary

Alfen is seeking a Solution Architect ESS to connect customers with energy storage solutions and support the sales process from proposal to execution. You will work with sales, engineering, project management and product development to develop innovative ESS solutions aligned with customer needs and Alfen’s strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Technical Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering).
• 2–5 years of relevant work experience with Energy Storage Systems (ESS) or related technologies.
• Ability to design and assess complex multidisciplinary technical solutions and align commercial and technical feasibility.
• Excellent communication in Dutch and English; German and/or French a plus.
• Experience using MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Assess incoming requests for proposals technically and commercially; translate needs into concrete ESS solutions.
• Quantify and compare alternative solutions; explain technical choices and commercial impact.
• Ensure cross-domain feasibility of solutions in technology, operations, and maintenance.
• Develop bid strategy in collaboration with the bid core team and other departments.
• Act as a technical expert during tenders and contribute to winning proposals writing.
• Provide timely technical input for proposals and tenders.

Become a Solution Architect ESS at Alfen and help shape the energy transition! Connect customers with our energy storage solutions, support the sales process from proposal to execution, and contribute to optimizing internal processes. Help drive the growth of Alfen ESS across Europe.

What will you do?

As Solution Architect ESS, you are the technical linchpin in the commercial process. You analyze customer requests, assess proposals both technically and commercially, and develop innovative ESS solutions that align with customer needs and Alfen’s strategic goals.

You work closely with multidisciplinary teams (sales, engineering, project management, and product development) and act as a technical expert during the tender process.

You combine technical knowledge with commercial insight and actively contribute to product innovation, standardization, and process optimization. You are also the point of contact for your market segments and represent Alfen at (international) events.

Your responsibilities include:

• Technically and commercially assessing incoming requests for proposals and translating customer needs into concrete solutions
• Quantifying and comparing alternative solutions, including explaining technical choices and their commercial impact
• Ensuring the feasibility of cross-domain solutions in terms of technology, operations, and maintenance
• Developing an effective bid strategy in close collaboration with the bid core team and other departments
• Acting as a technical expert during tenders and contributing to the development and writing of winning proposals
• Delivering technical input for proposals and tenders on time
• Supporting the sales process during customer meetings, bid clarifications, and internal/external project discussions
• Ensuring smooth project handover upon award, enabling efficient execution
• Proactively identifying risks and improvement opportunities early on, and initiating actions to mitigate them
• Contributing to process improvement, standardization, and product innovation within Alfen ESS
• Representing Alfen at trade fairs and events to share and follow the latest developments

What do we ask of you?

You are customer-focused, technically skilled, and able to organize processes efficiently. You easily switch between internal departments and external stakeholders and have a keen eye for quality and detail. Additionally, you have:

• A completed bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably in Technical Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or Mechanical Engineering
• 2–5 years of relevant work experience with Energy Storage Systems (ESS) or related technologies
• Experience in designing and assessing complex, multidisciplinary technical solutions and the ability to align commercial interests with technical feasibility
• A proactive, customer-oriented attitude and the drive to bring projects to a successful outcome
• Excellent communication skills (spoken and written) in Dutch and English, preferably also in German and/or French
• Experience with MS Office
