Job summary

Albert Heijn is building a cutting‑edge retail media data platform and seeks a hands‑on data engineer who will own key technical initiatives. You will join a collaborative, scale‑up culture and work across Europe with strong ownership of data pipelines, quality, and platform self‑service.

You will lead migrations to modern dbt‑based standards, design scalable batch/streaming pipelines, and mentor peers while helping raise engineering quality across the team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering experience.
• Hands‑on with dbt, including data modeling, testing, and incremental processing.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark in production.
• Strong SQL skills and Python software development.
• Experience designing and operating batch and streaming pipelines.
• Experience with lakehouse/medallion architectures and cloud cost optimization.
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure‑as‑code practices.

Responsibilities

• Establish and evolve engineering best practices in Databricks, Spark, dbt, Python.
• Lead migration of data pipelines to a dbt‑based platform and set standards.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms for multiple brands.
• Mentor and coach data engineers via code reviews and standards.
• Embed test automation as part of delivery and ensure data quality.
• Guard data models and the integrity of downstream data products.
• Build self‑service models so teams can use the data platform themselves.
• Improve reliability, performance, and cost‑efficiency of data platforms.
• Own data quality standards and operational excellence.
• Partner with platform engineers to shape future direction.
• Lead technical discussions and architectural trade‑offs.
