Job summary

Albert Heijn is seeking a hands-on data engineer to build and scale our retail media data platform. You will own end-to-end data pipelines, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help raise engineering quality across the team.

You will work across Databricks, Spark, dbt, Python, and Terraform in a hybrid setup by Zaandam station, focusing on reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency, while mentoring colleagues and driving data governance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering.
• Hands-on experience with dbt, Databricks, Spark in production.
• Strong SQL and Python development skills.
• Experience with batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Experience with data platform architectures such as lakehouse/medallion; cost optimization.

Responsibilities

• Establish and evolve engineering best practices in Databricks, Spark, dbt, Python, testing, observability, and CI/CD.
• Lead migration of existing data pipelines to a modern dbt-based platform and define standards for the wider team.
• Design and evolve scalable batch and streaming data platforms processing millions of records across brands.
• Mentor data engineers through code reviews and shared standards.
• Embed test automation into data engineering workflows and ensure data integrity.
• Guard data models and the data handed to consumers.
• Build self-service models so other teams can work on the platform.
• Improve reliability, scalability, performance and cost-efficiency of data pipelines.
• Partner with platform engineers and architects to shape future direction and drive architectural trade-offs.
• Lead technical discussions and manage stakeholder relationships.
