Job summary

Albert Heijn is building a cutting-edge retail media data platform in Europe to support multiple brands. You will own and evolve data pipelines, mentor engineers, and drive quality, performance, and cost efficiency across a growing data ecosystem.

You will work in a hybrid setup, combining home and on-site collaboration near Zaandam, with a mature agile approach and strong emphasis on ownership and engineering standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering.
• Hands-on experience with dbt, data modeling, testing, and incremental processing.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark in production.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Strong Python development skills.
• Experience designing and operating batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Experience with lakehouse and medallion architectures.
• Experience optimizing performance, reliability, and cloud costs at scale.
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code.

Responsibilities

• Establish engineering best practices in Databricks, Spark, dbt, Python, testing, observability, and CI/CD.
• Lead migration of data pipelines to a dbt-based platform and define standards.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms handling millions of records.
• Mentor data engineers through coaching, code reviews, and standards.
• Embed test automation into data engineering delivery.
• Guard data models and data integrity handed to consumers.
• Build self-service data models for other teams.
• Improve reliability, scalability, performance and cloud cost efficiency.
• Own data quality standards and operational excellence across data products.
• Partner with platform engineers to shape future direction.
• Lead technical discussions and evaluate architectural trade-offs.
