Job summary

Lever, Inc. in the Netherlands is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for Payments & Fintech to rebuild and scale financial systems at a global platform.

You will own canonical billing, subscriptions, and entitlement ledgers, and drive reliability across multiple payment gateways and currencies. You will collaborate with Finance, Operations, and tech leadership to ensure accuracy of payments, refunds, and revenue reporting, while migrating from legacy systems to an auditable, scalable platform for

Qualifications

• 6–10 years backend engineering with Go.
• Experience building payments, billing, and ledger systems end-to-end.
• Strong SQL and relational database design.
• Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency billing.
• Knowledge of EU VAT/OSS and tax frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design canonical billing and entitlement ledger using append-only architecture.
• Own complete subscription lifecycle including renewals and proration across gateways.
• Build payment gateway ingestion pipelines with idempotent webhooks and reconciliation.
• Handle refunds, chargebacks, disputes, credits, and settlements with accuracy.
• Create data pipelines for accounting close, revenue recognition, and tax reporting.
• Own customer-facing billing experience including checkout and account management.
• Lead migration from legacy models with data backfills and regional cutovers.
• Establish engineering practices for financial correctness, observability, and reliability under scale.
