Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Project Safety Officer to manage HSE on Benelux project sites, ensuring policies and local regulations are followed. The role requires a strong field presence and authority to stop work when unsafe conditions are observed.

The position involves frequent travel across Belgium and the Netherlands and collaboration with site managers, engineering, and subcontractors to drive safety improvements and compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a safety/environmental/engineering field or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of hands-on HSE experience in construction, energy, infrastructure, or industrial projects.
• Experience managing subcontractor safety, and ensuring compliance and performance.
• Strong knowledge of HSE legislation, industry standards, and European directives.
• MVK or equivalent HSE certification.
• Ability to work independently on site and influence behaviors.
• Fluent Dutch and English; French is a plus.
• Willingness to travel between Belgium and the Netherlands.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary HSE representative on site, promoting a strong safety culture and compliance.
• Provide hands-on safety leadership and engage subcontractors in safe practices.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, walkdowns, and observations to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
• Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, and safety coaching.
• Ensure all site personnel and subcontractors are trained, briefed and authorized before work.
• Monitor PPE and safety equipment usage and site safety controls for compliance.
• Exercise stop-work authority to address unsafe acts or conditions and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with project teams to integrate HSE into daily operations and planning.
• Lead or support incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Maintain accurate HSE documentation and KPIs.
• Contribute to a proactive safety culture across project sites.
