Job summary

Jobgether, on behalf of a partner company, is seeking a Principal Engineer based in the Netherlands to shape the future architecture of a large-scale Merchant Experience platform. You will own the technical direction and guide architecture across multiple teams, combining hands-on engineering with architectural leadership.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of proven software engineering experience including staff or principal level.
• Expert knowledge of domain-driven design in microservices and complex domain modeling.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, architecture, design patterns, and distributed systems.
• Proven ability to translate architectural concepts into practical solutions.
• Excellent written and spoken English; strong cross-team influence.
• Experience with AWS or other major cloud platforms.
• Proven leadership, mentoring, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Nice to have: PHP expertise, PostgreSQL/MySQL, and modern front-end familiarity.
• Experience with Symfony, Doctrine, Yii, TypeScript, Node.js, Angular, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, CI/CD, observability, and cloud-native architectures.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development and LLMs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own and share accountability for the technical direction, architecture, and solution design within the Merchant Experience pillar.
• Make and guide key architectural decisions aligning with platform strategy and standards.
• Contribute to organization-wide engineering strategy through architecture initiatives.
• Support engineering teams by creating proofs of concept and resolving design challenges.
• Investigate architecture-related challenges in performance, scalability, and distributed systems.
• Mentor engineers and technical leaders on architecture and coding standards.
• Collaborate to establish cohesive architecture practices and guardrails.
• Act as subject-matter authority for Domain-Driven Design and promote high-quality solutions.
