Job summary

Hong Seng Assembly is hiring a Workshop Supervisor to oversee daily workshop operations in Malaysia. The role entails leading technicians, planning manpower and equipment, and ensuring timely, quality servicing and repairs. You will monitor productivity, enforce safety standards, handle staff matters, and address customer inquiries.

The incumbent will manage costs, inventory, and asset upkeep while preparing management reports and supporting ad-hoc duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • SPM/diploma/degree in automotive, mechanical engineering or business management.
  • 3–5 years in workshop operations or related field.
  • Supervisory/managerial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of vehicle servicing and workshop workflow.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the workshop to ensure a smooth, efficient, and effective workflow.
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate technicians and support staff.
  • Plan and allocate manpower, equipment, tools, and other resources according to operational requirements.
  • Ensure all servicing and repair works are completed on time and meet the required quality standards.
  • Monitor workshop productivity and improve workflow processes to increase efficiency.
  • Implement and maintain proper work procedures, quality standards, and safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Handle personnel matters, including staff attendance, discipline, training, performance monitoring, and staff motivation.
  • Attend to customer inquiries, provide service or repair estimates, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, operational problems, and workflow challenges.
  • Monitor workshop costs, control expenses, and manage inventory where required.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, usage, and safekeeping of workshop equipment, tools, and company assets.
  • Assist in arranging debtor collection and follow up on outstanding payments, where necessary.
  • Prepare reports and provide updates to Management as required.
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Management or the immediate superior.

Requirements
  • Candidate must possess at least SPM / Diploma / Degree in Automotive, Mechanical Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of working experience in workshop operations, automotive servicing, repair management, or a related field.

  • Prior experience in a supervisory or managerial role will be an added advantage.

  • Good knowledge of vehicle servicing, repair processes, workshop workflow, and technical troubleshooting.

  • Able to lead, supervise, and motivate technicians and support staff.

  • Strong planning, coordination, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Good communication and customer service skills.

  • Possess basic computer skills and able to prepare reports when required.

  • Responsible, disciplined, hands-on, and able to work independently.
