The Well Test Engineer is responsible for engineering, preparing and supervising well test operations that safely measure well performance and obtain reliable fluid and pressure data. The role reviews the test objectives and well conditions, selects and verifies the surface well test package, prepares procedures and calculations and supports rig-up, commissioning, flow periods, sampling and shutdown. The incumbent also monitors well barriers, validates operational data, resolves equipment or process problems and completes the required client reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the approved well test programme, completion schematic, fluid properties, expected rates, pressure, temperature, sand risk, flow periods and data requirements.
- Confirm well barriers, shutdown philosophy, sampling requirements, disposal route, emissions controls and interfaces with rig, production and third-part services.
- Identify missing or uncertain design data and obtain clarification before issuing the final equipment configuration or operating procedure.
Equipment Selection & Process Engineering
- Select and size the test separator, choke manifold, heater or heat-exchange equipment, tanks, flare or burner system, metering devices and approved pressure-control equipment.
- Verify pressure and temperature ratings, flow capacity, relief and shutdown devices, piping layout, fluid compatibility, erosion risk and expected operating envelope.
- Prepare process schematics, calculations, equipment lists, rig-up layouts, test procedures, parameter limits, acceptance criteria and contingency actions.
Equipment Preparation & Pressure Testing
- Verify equipment identity, certification, inspection, maintenance, calibration, material compatibility and service history before mobilization.
- Supervise equipment assembly, functional checks, valve lineup verification, pressure testing, leak testing, preservation, packing and load-out.
- Ensure test charts, calibration records, equipment checklists, certificates and traceability documents are complete and approved.
- Provide wellsite direction for safe rig-up, line routing, supports, grounding, pressure testing, commissioning, flow initiation, stable testing and controlled shutdown.
- Monitor pressure, temperature, flow rate, fluid level, separator performance, choke condition, sand, flare or burner performance and shutdown-system status.
- Coordinate operating sequences and communications with the client, rig crew, well services, production, laboratory and other supporting personnel.
Data Acquisition, Sampling & Reporting
- Verify that pressure, temperature, liquid, gas and water measurements are collected at the required frequency using calibrated instruments.
- Coordinate representative fluid, gas and water sampling, labeling, storage, records and transfer in accordance with the approved programme.
- Validate field calculations and data quality and prepare daily reports, test summaries, equipment records, service tickets and final job reports.
Troubleshooting, Well Control & HSE
- Diagnose unstable separation, measurement error, hydrate or wax risk, erosion, leaks, pressure anomalies, equipment malfunction and flow-assurance problems.
- Maintain barrier awareness and verify controls for pressure, hydrocarbons, ignition sources, H2S, hot surfaces, chemicals, lifting and simultaneous operations.
- Stop and secure the operation when barriers, process conditions, equipment integrity or operating parameters fall outside approved limits.
Client Coordination & Service Improvement
- Act as the technical focal point for readiness reviews, toolbox talks, test-sequence confirmation, operational updates and post-job discussions.
- Report service-quality events and equipment failures and support investigation, corrective action, lessons learned and procedure improvement.
- Support equipment forecasts, maintenance priorities, technical tenders, local work instructions and competency development for well test personnel.
Authorities
- Stop or suspend well test activities when well barriers, equipment integrity, process conditions or approved controls are inadequate.
- Direct assigned well test personnel and control the operating sequence within the approved programme and equipment envelope.
- Reject damaged, uncertified, incorrectly configured or out-of-calibration well test equipment and instrumentation.
- Recommend parameter, equipment or sequence changes through the required technical, client and management-of-change approval process.
Qualifications & Requirement
- Education: Degree, Master's degree or PhD in Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Process or another relevant Engineering discipline.
- Experience: Minimum five (5) years' directly relevant experience in well test operations, regardless of the accepted Engineering qualification pathway.
- Language: Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of surface well test equipment, process flow and separation, pressure control, relief and shutdown systems, metering, sampling, test data, fluid handling, well barriers, flow assurance and wellsite HSE requirements.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Ability to engineer and supervise surface well test packages for defined well, fluid and rate conditions.
- Strong process understanding of separation, pressure control, metering, sampling, flaring and fluid handling.
- Competence in equipment inspection, valve-lineup verification, function testing, pressure testing and calibration control.
- Accurate data validation, field calculation, trend recognition and technical reporting skills.
- Methodical troubleshooting and disciplined response to pressure, process and equipment anomalies.
- Clear wellsite leadership, shift-handover, client communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
- Ability to work offshore, on rotation, at night or at remote well sites when required.
- Valid offshore medical, BOSIET/FOET, H2S, well-control and other client-required certificates, where applicable.
Incorporated in 2019, TKR Engineering Sdn Bhd is a newly formed company under Misarma Enterprise Sdn Bhd. We are committed to quality, cost-effectiveness and effective delivery. Our business started by doing supply to the oil & gas industry, we then moved to the maritime industry; the upstream and downstream clients and then on to industrial supplies on shore.
TKR Engineering is formed to focus on the engineering industry and allow more efficient project management and services allow more efficient management and services. We recognize our customer’s needs for convenience, non - time consuming purchase and on-time delivery of supplies at a competitive price.
TKR headquarters is located at a wholly owned/private wharf of our affiliiate company Misarma Marine Sdn Bhd. The Misarma Marine wharf has a length of 140 metres and 3 metres minimum alongside depth and is located alongside Baong River which also known as Miri River.
The river serves as the main route for cargo vessel to gain entry and exit and plays a major role as a transit for trans-loading operation, berthing, repair and maintainance services and other related matters to shipping industries.
