The Service Engineer - Liner Hanger Services is responsible for engineering, preparing and supervising the installation of liner hanger and liner-top systems. The role converts the approved casing, liner and cementing design into a verified equipment configuration, engineering package and running programme. The incumbent controls service-base preparation, coordinates rig-site make-up, running, setting, cementing, release and pack-off activities, completes technical documentation and undertakes other duties assigned by the supervisor or Management.
2) Key Responsibilities
Well Data Review & System Design
Review the casing and liner programme, hole and casing sizes, liner length and weight, trajectory, pressure, temperature, mud properties, formation constraints and well barriers.
Select the appropriate hydraulic or mechanical liner hanger, running/setting tool, liner-top packer, tieback or polished-bore receptacle and approved accessories.
Confirm drift, OD/ID, connection, material, seal, ball/seat, plug, wiper, float-equipment and cementing-head compatibility across the complete liner system.
Engineering Calculations & Job Planning
Calculate and verify buoyed liner weight, tensile and torsional capacity, burst/collapse, hanger capacity, setting/release pressure, ball-seat shear values, pack-off loads and operating margins.
Review torque and drag, circulating pressure, surge/swab, equivalent circulating density, running clearance and rotation or reciprocation requirements.
Prepare the equipment list, setting sheet, drawings, step-by-step running programme, hold points, acceptance criteria and credible contingency actions.
Equipment Preparation & Quality Control
Verify serial numbers, dimensions, setting-tool spacing, material certificates, inspection and maintenance status before assembly.
Supervise redress, assembly, torque, drift, function and pressure tests, preservation, packing, spares and load-out.
Ensure calibrated tools are used and that inspection, assembly, test and traceability records are complete and approved.
Lead readiness and risk reviews with the client, drilling contractor, cementing company, directional-drilling team and other service providers.
Direct equipment pick-up and make-up, tally verification, liner running, circulation, hanger setting, running-tool release, liner-top pack-off and retrieval of the running string.
Monitor hookload, drag, torque, pump pressure, flow rate, returns, ball landing, setting pressure, release indication and other critical parameters.
Cementing Interface & Well Integrity
Coordinate plug, wiper, float equipment, cementing-head and displacement interfaces with the cementing programme.
Verify that the running sequence, hanger setting, cementing and pack-off activities remain aligned with the approved barrier philosophy.
Maintain agreed hold points and acceptance criteria for setting, release, cement placement and liner-top verification.
Diagnose running, circulation, setting, release, pack-off or pressure-test problems using actual job parameters and equipment limits.
Recommend approved contingency actions and management-of-change steps without exceeding well, rig or product operating limits.
Apply controls for pressure testing, lifting, rotating equipment, suspended loads, stored energy, dropped objects, red zones and simultaneous operations.
Prepare final tool and liner tallies, pressure charts, setting records, service tickets, installation reports and non-conformity details.
Conduct post-job reviews and support failure analysis, corrective action, lessons learned and procedure improvements.
Support technical tenders, client presentations, equipment forecasts, local procedures and personnel competency development.
3) Authorities
Stop preparation or installation when equipment, calculations, certification, well conditions, barriers or job parameters are outside the approved basis or create an unsafe condition.
Recommend liner hanger configuration and contingency actions within product qualification limits, subject to peer review, management of change and client approval.
Prevent load-out or use until specified inspection, dimensional, assembly, test and documentation hold points are accepted.
Review and verify calculations, setting sheets, running procedures, tallies, test packs and final installation documentation before submission.
4) Qualifications & Requirement
Education: Degree, Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical, Petroleum, Drilling or another relevant Engineering discipline.
Experience: Minimum five (5) years' directly relevant experience in liner hanger equipment and services, regardless of the accepted Engineering qualification pathway.
Language: Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical liner hangers, running/setting tools, liner-top packers, tieback systems, polished-bore receptacles, cementing interfaces, downhole load calculations, torque and drag, hydraulics, equipment QA/QC and well barriers.
5) Preferred Skills and Competencies
Ability to select and engineer liner hanger and liner-top systems for defined well conditions.
Strong calculation capability for loads, tension, torque, burst/collapse, setting/release pressures and shear sequences.
Working knowledge of torque and drag, hydraulics, surge/swab, ECD, cementing and liner-running practices.
Competence in equipment spacing, assembly, torque control, drift, function/pressure testing and tallying.
Precise document control for drawings, setting sheets, procedures, test packs and final reports.
Strong planning, troubleshooting, risk assessment and management-of-change discipline.
Effective rig-floor leadership and coordination of client, drilling, cementing and service-company interfaces.
Valid offshore medical, BOSIET/FOET, H2S, well-control and other client-required certificates, where applicable.
