The Well Services Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting well services operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution throughout the well lifecycle. The role provides engineering support for well intervention, stimulation, completion, testing, production enhancement, and other well service activities while ensuring compliance with company standards, client requirements, regulatory obligations, and HSE policies.
1) Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Operational Planning
- Develop engineering programmes and operational procedures for well services activities in accordance with client specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
- Review well history, production data, integrity status, and operational objectives to determine suitable well service solutions.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical work packs, risk assessments, and contingency plans.
- Coordinate planning activities with drilling, production, well intervention, well integrity, and Plug & Abandonment teams.
- Evaluate equipment selection, operational methods, and service requirements to optimise project execution.
Project Execution
- Monitor and support well services operations, including well testing, stimulation, acidising, hydraulic workover, coiled tubing, wireline, slickline, completion, production logging, clean-out, and other remedial well services.
- Coordinate contractors, service providers, and field personnel during project execution.
- Monitor project schedules, operational performance, costs, and resource utilisation.
- Provide technical guidance to resolve operational and engineering issues during field activities.
- Ensure accurate operational reporting and completion of engineering documentation.
Well Performance & Integrity
- Analyse well performance and recommend engineering solutions to improve production and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate operational results and prepare post-job technical reports with recommendations for future improvements.
- Support troubleshooting of well performance, equipment failures, and operational challenges.
- Participate in root cause analysis and technical investigations.
- Assist in developing technical standards, procedures, and engineering best practices.
HSE & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, risk assessments, and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all well service activities comply with HSE requirements.
- Support audits, technical assurance reviews, and regulatory inspections.
- Recommend continuous improvement initiatives to enhance well services operations and engineering performance.
2) Authorities
- Recommend engineering solutions for well services operations within delegated authority.
- Recommend suspension of operations where personnel safety, environmental protection, or well integrity is at risk.
- Coordinate technical activities with contractors and service providers during project execution.
- Review engineering documentation, operational procedures, and technical reports within delegated authority.
- Escalate significant technical, operational, or HSE concerns to the Senior Well Services Engineer or Well Services Superintendent.
3) Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Well Services, Well Intervention, Drilling, Completions, Production Engineering, or related well engineering disciplines within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Experience planning and supporting offshore and/or onshore well services operations.
- Experience coordinating contractors, service providers, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of well services technologies, well integrity principles, and production optimisation.
Languages:
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Technical Knowledge:
- Well Services Engineering.
- Well Testing, Stimulation, Acidising, Hydraulic Workover, Coiled Tubing, Wireline, Slickline, and Completion Operations.
- Well Integrity and Barrier Management.
- Production Optimisation and Well Performance Analysis.
- Risk Assessment, Management of Change (MOC), and Technical Assurance.
- Well Engineering Software and Technical Reporting.
- Applicable API, ISO, PETRONAS Technical Standards, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Mandatory certifications may include BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS, H₂S Training, Offshore Medical Certificate, and other client-required certifications.
