Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum eight (8) years of direct drilling, completion or Coiled Tubing ops experience.
  • Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
  • Strong knowledge of drilling, completion, Coiled Tubing operations, well barriers and well control.

Technical Manager - Coiled Tubing Services

The Technical Manager is responsible for the technical governance, engineering quality and operational readiness of drilling, completion and Coiled Tubing services. The role reviews well programmes, verifies engineering deliverables and equipment selection, leads technical risk assessment and provides support during critical field operations. The incumbent develops technical capability, resolves service-quality issues and ensures that work remains within approved procedures, equipment limits, client requirements and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Governance & Engineering Assurance

Establish and maintain technical procedures, engineering workflows, review requirements and acceptance criteria for drilling, completion and Coiled Tubing service activities.

Review and approve calculations, equipment configurations, drawings, programmes, operating envelopes and contingency plans within delegated authority.

Ensure engineering decisions comply with contract requirements, client specifications, applicable standards, product limitations and company management systems.

Well Programme & Service Planning

Review well objectives, schematics, trajectories, pressure and temperature data, fluids, barrier requirements and operational constraints before finalizing the service plan.

Confirm that selected equipment, personnel, procedures, calculations, spares and technical support are suitable for the planned operating conditions.

Lead technical readiness reviews and ensure that assumptions, interfaces, hold points, acceptance criteria and contingency actions are clearly documented.

Operational Readiness & Execution Support

Coordinate workshop preparation, inspection, testing, certification, preservation and load‑out of service equipment before mobilization.

Provide technical direction during complex or high‑risk operations and monitor actual parameters against the approved programme and equipment envelope.

Ensure changes to equipment, sequence or operating parameters receive the required engineering, client and management‑of‑change approval before implementation.

Technical Risk & Troubleshooting

Lead technical risk assessments for pressure, load, well‑control, equipment, interface and execution hazards and verify that effective controls are assigned.

Support field teams in diagnosing equipment, downhole and process problems using verified operating data, calculations and documented product limits.

Develop technically justified recovery options and elevate conditions that fall outside approved procedures, competency or operating limits.

Service Quality & Equipment Reliability

Monitor service‑quality events, equipment failures, non‑conformities and recurring operational problems and ensure timely investigation and corrective action.

Verify that maintenance, inspection, calibration, certification, material traceability and equipment history controls support safe and reliable service delivery.

Review root‑cause findings, approve technical corrective actions within delegated authority and track their effectiveness through closure.

Act as the technical focal point for client reviews, clarification meetings, operational planning and post‑job performance discussions.

Evaluate supplier and subcontractor technical capability, documentation, equipment compliance and service performance for assigned work scopes.

Support tenders, technical proposals, scope definition, equipment forecasts, cost estimates and contract clarifications with accurate engineering input.

Define competency requirements for technical and operational personnel and coordinate coaching, assessment, authorization and development plans.

Review final job reports, lessons learned and performance trends and incorporate approved improvements into procedures, designs and training materials.

Allocate technical resources, set work priorities and maintain effective coordination among Engineering, Operations, HSE, QA/QC, Logistics and client teams.

Authorities

Stop or suspend technical preparation or field execution when barriers, data, equipment condition, competency or approved controls are inadequate.

Approve technical calculations, equipment configurations, procedures and engineering deliverables within delegated limits.

Reject equipment, documentation or proposed methods that do not meet approved technical, quality or safety requirements.

Assign technical personnel and recommend equipment, programme or contingency changes through the required approval process.

Qualifications & Requirement

Education: Degree, Master's degree or PhD in Petroleum, Mechanical, Drilling or another relevant Engineering discipline.

Experience: Minimum eight (8) years' directly relevant experience in drilling, completion and/or Coiled Tubing operations, regardless of the accepted Engineering qualification pathway.

Language: Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).

Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of drilling and completion practices, Coiled Tubing equipment and operations, well barriers and well control, engineering calculations, pressure and load limits, equipment assurance, operational risk and management of change.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

Ability to provide clear technical leadership across drilling, completion and Coiled Tubing work scopes.

Strong engineering review, analytical, troubleshooting and operational decision‑making capability.

Competence in well‑programme review, equipment selection, operating‑envelope verification and contingency planning.

Sound knowledge of equipment inspection, testing, certification, maintenance and service‑quality controls.

Effective client communication, technical presentation, report review and multidisciplinary coordination skills.

Ability to coach, assess and authorize technical and operational personnel within a competency system.

Proficiency in engineering software, document‑control systems, spreadsheets and standard office applications.

Relevant well-control, Coiled Tubing, offshore medical, BOSIET/FOET and client‑required certifications are advantages where applicable.
