TKR Engineering Sdn Bhd is seeking a Slickline Operator to safely prepare, rig-up, operate and maintain slickline units and related pressure-control equipment for well surveillance and intervention.
The role requires execution of the approved well programme, maintaining barriers, monitoring depth and line movement, coordinating with client and rig crew, and completing accurate operational records. offshore certification is preferred and travel offshore on rotation may be required.
The Slickline Operator is responsible for the safe preparation, rig-up, operation and maintenance of slickline units, pressure-control equipment and downhole tools used for well surveillance, maintenance and intervention. The role executes the approved well programme, maintains well barriers, controls depth and line movement, coordinates with the client and rig crew, and completes accurate operational records. The incumbent also supports mobilization and demobilization and undertakes other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor or Management.
2) Key Responsibilities
Pre-Job Planning & Equipment Preparation
Review the approved job programme, well schematic, completion configuration, pressure and temperature data, barrier requirements, tool drawings and contingency steps.
Confirm equipment lists, certificates, calibration status, consumables, spares and load-out requirements before mobilization.
Inspect, measure, drift and assemble rope sockets, stems, jars, knuckle joints, pulling/running tools, gauge cutters and other approved toolstring components.
Rig-Up & Pressure-Control Equipment
Rig up and rig down the slickline unit, measuring head, sheaves, stuffing box, lubricators, tool trap, quick-test sub and wireline valve/BOP in accordance with the approved layout.
Complete function and pressure tests, verify rated connections and barriers, and record the accepted test results.
Maintain exclusion zones, lifting controls, safe line routing and clear communication during rig-up, testing and rig-down.
Slickline Operations
Operate the winch, depth and weight indicators; control line speed, tension, tool movement and accurate depth correlation within approved operating limits.
Perform approved services including drifting, gauging, tagging, setting or retrieving plugs, shifting sleeves, handling gas-lift valves, running memory gauges, bailing and basic fishing.
Monitor wellhead pressure, barrier status, line condition and downhole response, and immediately stop and secure the operation when abnormal conditions arise.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Clean, redress, preserve and store slickline tools and pressure-control equipment after use.
Identify line, depth, tool, pressure or equipment problems and apply only approved recovery or contingency actions with supervisor authorization.
Report defects, quarantine unserviceable equipment and maintain line history, tool tallies, inspection, calibration and maintenance records.
Client Coordination & Reporting
Participate in pre-job meetings, JSA/JHA reviews, toolbox talks, shift handovers and post-job reviews with client, wellsite and rig personnel.
Provide clear operational updates and coordinate supporting personnel, equipment movement and job interfaces.
Complete daily reports, service tickets, pressure-test charts, depth records, equipment checklists, tool tallies and final job reports accurately and on time.
Compliance & Safety
Comply with permit-to-work, well-control, pressure-control, lifting, dropped-object prevention and simultaneous-operations requirements.
Use only inspected, certified and serviceable equipment within its rated pressure, load, temperature and operating envelope.
Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and non-conformities and support corrective action and continuous improvement.
3) Authorities
Stop or refuse work when barriers are uncertain, equipment is unfit, controls are inadequate or the task exceeds approved limits or personal competency.
Operate the slickline unit and approved downhole tools within the authorized programme and equipment operating envelope.
Recommend toolstring or contingency changes to the supervisor and client representative for approval.
Reject damaged, uncertified, incorrectly configured or out-of-tolerance equipment from the job.
4) Qualifications & Requirement
Education: Diploma in Mechanical, Petroleum, Oil and Gas, Mechatronic, Instrumentation or another relevant Engineering discipline; or Certificate in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Experience: Certificate holders must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Slickline Operator. Diploma holders must demonstrate documented slickline competency and relevant practical operating experience.
Language: Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of slickline units, line limits, pressure-control equipment, toolstrings, well schematics, depth correlation, well barriers, pressure testing, equipment maintenance and HSE requirements.
5) Preferred Skills and Competencies
Proven competence in slickline rig-up, pressure testing, depth control, tool handling and safe line operation.
Ability to interpret well programmes, completion schematics, tool drawings and barrier plans.
Strong awareness of pressure-control, lifting, dropped-object and stored-energy hazards.
Accurate measurement, tallying, recordkeeping and operational reporting skills.
Effective teamwork and communication with client, rig and service-company personnel.
Ability to troubleshoot methodically and remain disciplined during extended operations.
Valid offshore medical, BOSIET/FOET, H2S, well-intervention/well-control and other client-required certificates, where applicable.
Ability to travel and work offshore, on rotation, at night or at remote well sites when required.
