Job summary

Amphenol TCS (M) Sdn Bhd in Penang's Bukit Mertajam is seeking a skilled Toolmaker to design, create and maintain precision tooling for our connector and electronics manufacturing lines.

As a full-time role, you will read engineering drawings, set up dies and tooling, perform adjustments, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Formally qualified in toolmaking or mechanical engineering.
• Experience in toolmaking or precision machining in manufacturing.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work with tight tolerances.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Analyze problems and repair tooling for corrective action.
• Set up dies and perform minor trouble-shooting on presses.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure accuracy.
• Inspect finished dies for conformance to specs and adjust as needed.
• Operate surface grinding and other precision tooling processes.

Amphenol TCS (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking a skilled and experienced Toolmaker to join our manufacturing operations in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our production capability. As a Toolmaker, you will be responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining the precision tools and dies that are essential to our manufacturing processes. This role is integral to ensuring the quality and efficiency of our connector and electronics manufacturing operations, supporting the strategic objectives of our company in delivering world-class products to our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze problem and repair tooling for corrective action.
• Make improvement and propose corrective and preventive action.
• Understand and read engineering drawing.
• Setup and follow-up on die setup and minor trouble-shooting on press machine.
• Assemble new tooling and modification / upgrading.
• Operate surface grinding machine for fabrication, resurface and modification.
• Completes routine die report for traceability / improvements and communicates effectively through detail information.
• Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
• File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
• Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
• Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
• Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
• Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
• Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.

What we’re looking for

• Formal qualification in toolmaking, mechanical engineering or a related trade qualification
• Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience in toolmaking or precision machining in a manufacturing environment
• Advanced proficiency in operating machines and other precision equipment
• Strong understanding of technical drawings and precision measurement tools
• Demonstrated ability to work with tolerances to micron-level precision
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Strong mathematical skills for calculations and tool design specifications
• Commitment to health and safety standards in the workplace
• Preferred: Experience in the electronics or connector manufacturing industry
