SAM Malaysia is seeking a focused Tooling Technician to fabricate, assemble, and maintain molds, fixtures, and jigs, supporting engineering, customer requirements, DFM activities, and subcontractor coordination.
With 2–4 years in tooling (semiconductor/precision industry preferred), you will read GD&T, understand tool materials, and work under production pressure to ensure quality and timely delivery. Certificate/Diploma in Tool & Die or Mechanical is required.
To fabricate, repair, and maintain precision semiconductor tooling (molds, trim & form, fixtures), while supporting engineering, customer requirements, DFM activities, project execution, and subcontractor coordination.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tooling Fabrication & Maintenance
Manufacture, assemble, and repair:
IC package molds o Trim & form tools o Precision fixtures and jigs
Perform machining processes:
Ensure tools meet required tolerance, quality, and durability
Conduct preventive maintenance and support production issues
2. Technical Communication
Support communication between:
Review technical drawings and specifications
Tool feasibility o Repair status
Update progress and highlight risks or delays
Note: Compared to Senior role, communication is more supporting role, not leading.
3. Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
Assist in DFM evaluation of tooling design
Highlight manufacturability concerns such as:
Tight tolerance issues o Difficult machining areas
Wear-prone components
Suggest improvements for:
Maintenance access
Work with engineers to implement design changes
4. Project Support / Planning
Support tooling project activities:
Assembly timeline
Trial preparation
Track assigned tasks and ensure deadlines are met
Provide status updates to supervisor or project engineer
Assist in tool buy-off and qualification
Note: Responsible for execution, not full project ownership.
Liaise with subcontractors for:
Machining
Heat treatment o Surface coating
Follow up on:
Delivery status
Quality issues
Assist in inspection and acceptance of outsourced parts
Report non-conformance and coordinate corrective actions
6. Troubleshooting & Improvement
Support root cause analysis on:
Carry out rework/modification to improve:
Tool performance
Yield
Cycle time
Implement continuous improvement actions
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
Certificate / Diploma in Tool & Die, Mechanical, or Precision Engineering
Experience
2-4 years of experience in tooling (semiconductor / precision industry preferred)
