Job summary

FOZ One Sdn Bhd in Senai, Johor, Malaysia seeks a Technology Development Manager to lead the Process & Technology Development (PTD) department. The role will study new manufacturing methods and automation tech, translating findings into a prioritized technology roadmap for the Business Unit.

You will benchmark emerging technologies, convert data into ROI-driven roadmaps, and manage a balanced project portfolio while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Manufacturing / Mechatronics / Electrical) or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years in manufacturing, process or equipment engineering.
• At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Experience with DOE/DFMEA and IP considerations is preferred.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Technology Development Manager to lead the Process & Technology Development (PTD) department. He or she will study of new manufacturing methods, equipment and automation technology, translating findings into a prioritized technology roadmap for the Business Unit.

Job Description

Benchmark emerging manufacturing and automation technologies to identify step-change operational gains.

Convert plant performance data and engineering needs into a prioritized 12-month technology roadmap with clear ROI and payback analysis.

Balance active project pipelines to match department resource capacity.

2. Process & Equipment Development

Lead process concepts from prototype trials and physics validation through to design review, commissioning, and qualification.

Draft precise equipment specifications (cycle times, capability targets, safety standards) for internal and external builders.

Hand over fully qualified processes to Production and Maintenance with standardized work instructions, control plans, and spare parts lists.

3. IP & Know-How Management

Oversee prior-art and freedom-to-operate searches prior to project commitments.

Drive patent, utility innovation, and industrial design filings while establishing IP protection controls for vendors and partners.

Maintain development records to support government R&D tax incentive and grant applications.

4. New Product Introduction (NPI)

Own DFM/DFA feasibility assessments and resolve customer specification issues early in the design cycle.

Manage project schedules, costs, tooling readiness, pilot runs, and final mass production handovers.

Serve as the primary technical point of contact for internal stakeholders, customers, and external suppliers.

Establish and govern part-numbering standards, BOM rules, and ECR/ECN release and traceability processes.

Audit engineering data accuracy to minimize error rates and optimize PLM workflows.

Manage department operating budgets and justify CapEx spending with cost-benefit and payback evaluations.

Source and manage automation integrators, tooling makers, and research partners under secure IP agreements.

Identify and secure applicable government technology grants and development funding.

Lead, recruit, and upskill the engineering team in structured problem-solving and documentation discipline.

Protect R&D bandwidth by separating daily operational troubleshooting from strategic development work.

Track departmental KPIs (cost savings, process capability, delivery times, IP filings) and report progress directly to Executive Leadership.

Qualification & Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Manufacturing / Mechatronics / Electrical) or equivalent. A master's degree, Six Sigma Black Belt, PMP or professional engineer registration is an advantage.

Minimum 5 years in manufacturing, process or equipment engineering, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Manufacturing Processes: Deep understanding of consumer electronics/home appliance assembly, including joining methods (ultrasonic welding, heat staking, tufting, fastening), surface finishing, and functional testing.

Quality & Process Engineering: Hands-on application of core quality tools—DOE, SPC, Cp/Cpk, MSA, DFMEA/PFMEA, and 8D root-cause analysis—to prove out new processes and equipment.

NPI Execution: End-to-end New Product Introduction literacy covering DFM/DFA, process readiness, pilot runs, capability validation, and mass production handover.

Engineering Data & PLM Governance: Proven knowledge of part-numbering logic, BOM structures, revision control, ECR/ECN workflows, and data migration principles.

Intellectual Property (IP) Literacy: Ability to conduct patent searching, prior-art and freedom-to-operate assessment, invention disclosure preparation, and trade-secret protection controls.
